WHAT IS CARDIFF BMX RACING CLUB ALL ABOUT?
Cardiff BMX Racing Club is for anyone who enjoys riding BMX tracks! We offer support and advice to absolute beginners right up to in-depth technique analysis for experience riders from our qualified coaches.
HOW MUCH IS IT TO JOIN?
It costs £15 to join the club as an individual.
DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER OR CAN I JUST TURN UP AND RIDE?
You can just turn up and ride! We love to see new faces and provided we have space, and you have correct safety equipment and the right attitude we never turn riders away. If you enjoy yourself and attend regularly we hope you would join the club.
DO I NEED A PROPER RACE BMX?
No! You can ride any bike as long as it is safe to use in a BMX track environment.
WHAT OTHER EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
Full-face helmet, long sleeves and trousers and a bike with at least one brake.
CAN I HIRE/BUY EQUIPMENT FROM YOU?
Yes, you can hire equipment.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOUR COACHES HOLD?
All our coaches have L2 BMX certification from British Cycling. This takes about 18 months to acquire.
WHAT IS YOUR INCLUSION POLICY?
Anyone with the right attitude can come and ride, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity and ability.
WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF A BMX RACE?
Race days start with practice in the morning. Then up to eight riders compete against each other in in heat races called “motos”. After the motos, the fastest riders progress through to quarter, semi and then finals to determine the winners!
HOW OFTEN ARE RACES HELD?
Races occur roughly once a month during the season (spring-summer). If you want to race more often, there may be other BMX race series running further away from you which you can join if you’re willing to travel.
WHERE ARE RACES HELD?
As well as at Cardiff BMX, there are also tracks at nearby clubs including Llynfi (Maesteg), Bryn Bach Park (Tredegar) and Patchway (Bristol).
IS IT DANGEROUS?
BMX involves high speed, big jumps and close proximity racing. It is a thrilling sport and can be dangerous! However, we will always keep riders as safe as possible by monitoring facilities, riders' techniques and equipment closely.
